The king’s mosque (Area)

The King’s Mosque, otherwise known as the Mosque of Sultan Bayazit, is today very much changed from its original appearance at the end of the 15th century. From 1832 to 1833 the monument was in danger of destruction and underwent almost total reconstruction, adapting to the construction techniques and the historical conditions of the time. The mosque is part of a social religious complex, together with other buildings such as the Tekkes, the library, and the guest rooms of the dervishes.

The interior (Area)

The interior of the King’s Mosque stands up for the special composition of its parts. The prayer hall has three doors, two on the side and one in the centre which connects it with the portico on the north. The hall has a wooden ceiling whose dimensions are 15.40 x 12.10 metres. Six windows, one on each side except for the northern side where the prayer hall is connected with the portico, bring light into the interior of the prayer hall

The mihrab is on the east, and is distinguished for the beautiful artistic elaboration of the bas-relief.
