    Welcome to the Auditorium! In this Auditorium there are 1.040 seats where people can watch conferences and lectures. The central opening is held here every year during the Reception Week, the OWee for new students. All upcoming freshmen will get to see a beautiful laser show here in the Auditorium.

  • The academic dressin... ... (Area)

    Here you are in the academic dressing room of the TU Delft. Gowns are worn at official events by professors and the beadle. Consider, for example, promotions and the academic opening of the year. All TU Delft gowns are stored in this room.

  • The aula (Area)

    Here you are standing in front of the entrance to the Aula of TU Delft and under the large auditorium. The building has a remarkable appearance with the large concrete structures that hold up the large auditorium. As a result, the Aula belongs to the architectural style of Brutalism. The Aula was built in 1966 and was designed by J.B. Bakema.

  • A rolling elevator (Point)

    Normally an elevator is lifted by cables and a counterweight. This lift works slightly differently and is lifted by wheels. A spiral located under the cabin rolls over hundreds of wheels until the elevator reaches the floor where it should be. We must wait a while because this design causes the elevator to move slowly.

    In the Aula you have a large canteen on the side of the library. Here you can have lunch, have a cup of coffee or even show your musical skills on the piano!

  • Doctoral promotions (Point)

    In this room all doctoral ceremonies take place. The thesis of the candidate is presented and the scientific knowledge is tested of the candidate. If the ceremony goes well, the candidate is promoted here to doctor.

  • Different sorts of g... ... (Point)

    TU Delft consists of several faculties. Each faculty thus also has its own color. As you may see, the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering has the color orange, 3mE red and CiTG the color blue.

  • The beadle (Point)

    In addition to professors from TU Delft, the Beadle will also receive a gown. The Beadle is an official of a university, but in the Netherlands the Beadle only has a ceremonial value. In addition to a toga, the Beadle also has a beadle's staff. With this beadle's staff, the beadle ends the promotion ceremony by tapping the staff on the ground and shouting: "Hora est!" which means "It's time!".

  • Johan van hasselt (Point)

    The Van Hasselt room is named after the student and resistance fighter Johan van Hasselt. Van Hasselt stood up for the unjustified suspension of Jewish teachers at the TU Delft. In November 1940 he caused a massive strike of 500 students, after which he was arrested by the Germans a few days later. He was transferred to a German concentration camp where he died in 1942.
