Holy Trinity Church Berat
DETAILS
The church of saint... ... (Area)
The Church Saint Trinity rises near the walls of the garrison and the southern walls of the Berat castle. It stands on a sloping ground and has a cross in square plan, supported by two columns on the west side and by two pilasters on the east. Is believed that the church has been built at the beginning of the 14th century, during the reign of Andronikos II Paleologus (1282-1328). Saint Trinity has many features of Byzantine architecture, such as the organization of the interior volume, decoration with wall paintings and lighting. These features are found in the naos, narthex and altar. The narthex is attached to the masonry of the nave through clear joints and must have been built immediately behind the nave. It is entered through three doors, where the western one is the main one and which is covered with a brick arch; the other two are covered with monolithic stone architraves
Naos (Area)
From the narthex, through an arched gate, you enter the naos area with a square layout and with a higher level than the narthex, following the line of the ground.
Altar (Point)
The altar area is built directly into the rock and, from the outside, is surrounded by relatively late wall structures. The apse from the outside is of the three-sided type, with a window in the center.
